Prevent Driving Related Deaths

Post Date - Sep 27, 2024

The top cause of truck driver deaths is vehicle accidents. In the United States alone, 800 to 1,000 truck drivers per year perish in accidents caused primarily by fatigue. Roadrunner always puts safety first. Prevent fatigue and burnout so you don’t end up as a statistic.

First, getting enough sleep is crucial- aim for at least 7-9 hours before a long drive. Breaks are important, too. Stopping every couple of hours to stretch or walk around can make a significant difference in how alert you feel. Utilize your breaks for naps if needed.

Eating healthy and staying hydrated is key to functioning and staying alert. Heavy meals can make you sleepy, so lighter, balanced meals are ideal. Even mild dehydration can make you tired. And while caffeine can help, it’s good not to overdo it since the caffeine crash can make you feel worse.

Lastly, listening to your body is the most important part. If you're feeling drowsy, it's better to pull over and take a short nap than to push through. Only pull over in a designated area or rest stop that accommodates your truck. Pulling over in other places can result in a violation.
