Plan Ahead for Maintenance Costs

Post Date - Sep 28, 2024

As an owner operator, you run your trucking business. By partnering with Roadrunner, you receive steady & consistent freight as well as support from our team regarding your trucking business. Your truck is your livelihood and deserves to be cared for! Factor in your truck’s expected maintenance fees so you aren’t stuck without a plan or truck.

For maintenance alone, a good rule is to set aside $0.10 to $0.15 per mile. Plan ahead for maintenance costs by calculating how much you expect to drive and set aside at least $0.10/mile. Factor oil changes into your driving plans, which are recommended every 25,000 to 50,000 miles. Depending on the brand and year of your truck, pricing can range from $200-$400 per service.

Another item you will need to replace are your tires. It’s crucial that your tires are inflated and in working order. If the treads are low, a bubble forms, or any wires are visible, replace it immediately. You can expect to pay between $400 to $1,000 per tire, which means a full set can cost between $3,000-$6,000. Tires will typically need to be replaced every 70,000-100,000.

There are many other costs outside of maintenance for owner operators, but Roadrunner is committed to you, our business partners, by offering you schedulers, planners, and a team to help you make the best decisions for your trucking goals.
