Is It Time for New Tires?
Post Date - Aug 19, 2024
Did you know that tires typically need to be replaced every 25,000 to 75,000 miles? How often you replace your tires depends on several factors including the type of tire, driving conditions, and maintenance practices.
So how do you know when it's time to replace your tires? Specific signs that indicate when tires should be replaced, regardless of mileage, include:
- Tread Depth: The tread depth should be above 2/32 of an inch (1.6 mm). If the tread is worn down to this level, it's time to replace the tires
- Age: Even if the tread looks good, tires should generally be replaced every 6 to 10 years. Rubber degrades over time, which can lead to cracks and potential failures.
- Visible Damage: Cuts, cracks, bulges, or punctures that can't be repaired are signs that a tire needs to be replaced.
- Vibration or Rough Ride: Unusual vibrations or a rough ride can indicate tire damage or imbalance, which might require replacement.
- Uneven Wear: If the tires are worn unevenly, it could indicate a problem with alignment or inflation.
You should routinely complete pre- and post-trip inspections. During these inspections, you can determine if there are any safety issues.
